verso il mare, di probabile origine saracena, Caronia conserva
tracce della cinta muraria trecentesca nell'arco della porta
principale e in due torri ed ospita il bel complesso fortificato del
Castello normanno, tuttora abitato, che domina la sottostante
Marina.
Nel declivio che dal paese scende verso il
mare vi era il sito dell'antica Calacte, fondata da re Ducezio intorno alla
metrà del sec. V a.C. e centro fiorente in età ellenistica e romana.
In questa oasi di tranquillità si trova il
bivani di via Brin che si affaccia sul lungomare Cristoforo Colombo e su una
delle più belle spiagge di Marina con vista sulle Isole Eolie, raggiungibili
dai vicini centri di Capo d'Orlando e S.Agata di Militello (nel periodo
estivo) o da Milazzo
